We invite applications for the position of HR Business Partner in our plant in Emporia, KS. This position will serve as a business partner with leaders and employees across the plant by providing support in employee and labor relations, performance management, organizational development, training, individual development planning (succession planning), talent acquisition, and other workplace initiatives, to drive operational excellence in the facility. The incumbent will provide leadership and counsel to business partners in issue resolution, policy and process development, policy adherence, and process renewal to support compliance with Colgate policies, as well as federal and state employment legislation. The right candidate will be able to meet the day-to-day requirements of the Human Resources department while maintaining a strategic and operational view that links the role of HR to business needs.


What you will do


  • Provides direction, leadership and support on all HR related processes/activities to managers, supervisors and employees
  • Operates within a participative team environment and seeks to increase team member's interpersonal and collaboration skills and knowledge to a level consistent with a premier manufacturer
  • Participate with functional leaders and others as vital to create and implement strategic organization plans, strategic labor relations plans, and near and long term resource / staffing plans
  • Lead "People Capabilities" Standard in compliance with the Colgate-Palmolive Factory Performance & Reliability Standards
  • Mentor team members in the areas of communication skills, career paths, promoting a positive work environment (Managing with Respect), through formal and informal feedback sessions
  • Assist leaders in timely completion of all steps in annual Performance Management and Development (PM&D) process
  • Guide and support managers in developing corrective actions and ensure accurate documentation and follow up for low performing employees
  • Partner with compensation in annual salary planning, merit forecasting and preparing an annual wage/salary survey for factory technicians to assess and understand pay position in local market; present any recommended wage change actions, and secure approvals to implement
  • Within Succession Planning, maintain and update databases in SAP, review profiles for consistency, follow up with managers, action recommendations & develop presentations
  • Assist managers and employees in career development plans, and in sustaining a continuous improvement culture for the site
  • Craft and deliver training interventions to support the organization needs; identify training resource requirements
  • Lead recruitment activities, assessment & selection processes to timely fill vacant position
  • Ensure on-boarding and assimilation processes for new employees confirms alignment with organization’s vision and culture and achieves their ability to quickly give to the organization’s goals
  • Coordinate employee transfers, conduct exit interviews, and provide recommendations for corrective action policy revision and/or improving employee and labor relations
  • Interface between federal, state and local government representatives and the company on issues involving people
  • Ensure effective, consistent administration of HR policies and guidelines
  • Ensure HR data is accurate and updated in SAP-HR system. Use SAP reports to audit data and extract for reporting and analyses
  • Analyze and/or prepare a variety of reports concerning the Human Resource function and key performance indicators vital to communicate, educate or inform
  • Lead an HR team of three. Complete all PM&D steps and coach and develop subordinates to achieve individual and career growth objective
  • Represent the company in outside community activities
  • Reports to the Hill's Supply Chain HR Director and indirectly to the Plant Director



Basic requirements:


  • BS or BA degree required (HR, Business, Management or related field)
  • 8+ years of relevant Human Resource Generalist experience (Staffing, Compensation, Development, Employee Relations, HRIS)
  • 5 years of proven experience in a manufacturing or related environment
  • Strong project management, presentation, and facilitation skills required


Preferred requirements:


  • Masters Degree preferred (HR, Business, Management or related field)
  • Professional Certifications: PHR/SPHR/GPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP
  • Proficiency with SAP-HR and Success Factors systems
  • Proficiency with Google Suites Applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Gmail, Drive)
  • Experience in manufacturing operations management outside of Human Resources


Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements
  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually
  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
