K2 Solutions, Inc., is seeking interested persons, especially those who have a Military or Law Enforcement background to participate in its Explosive Detection Dog Handler Training, Assessment and Selection Program. The Program includes a free 6-week Person-Borne™ Explosive Detection training course at K2's North Carolina Training Center, culminating with certification by the International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA).

The Handler Training Program is held at K2's NC training facility. Students will be paid a non-taxable daily stipend and will stay free of charge in K2's fully furnished apartments.

Participants who successfully complete the course, certify and pass K2's screening process will be offered either part time, full time or seasonal employment as part of a team that will work to inspect crowds, venues, personnel, cargo, vehicles, and buildings in conjunction with client needs. Depending on the client, handler duties may include working major sports events, scanning the crowds to detect potential Person-Borne™ Explosive threats, or as part of a team that works as cargo screeners at selected airports around the country.

Qualifications and Skills

- Minimum of 2 years Handler experience in canine explosive detection duties (strongly preferred)

- Handling experience within the past 3 years (strongly preferred)

- Former Law Enforcement or Military K9 background preferred

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment

- Exercise sound judgment in all areas of responsibility

- Maintain effective professional relationships with employees and outside individuals and agencies

- Able to understand and successfully handle various operational issues

Responsibilities and Duties upon Employment:

- The Canine Handler Team will be required to search for and identify explosive threats at commercial venues and/or at airports and other cargo screening areas.

- Venues may be large stadium-type environments or airport cargo and luggage processing facilities; both will require handlers who are experienced in interfacing with the public and presenting a professional image and demeanor at all times.

- Customers include, but are not limited to, professional sports teams, major airlines and cargo shippers. Handlers must be comfortable interacting with the customer’s executive leadership, facilities managers and security personnel.

- Handlers must be comfortable scanning crowds and cargo with their canines to identify potential explosive threats.

- Handlers will be responsible for maintaining training records to maintain SAFETY ACT/TSA certification.

- Handlers may be required to work additional hours as directed.

- Handlers must be able to complete all required administrative tasks, such as time cards and expense reports, accurately and submit to their supervisor on time.

- Handlers MUST live within a reasonable driving distance of the position location (approx. 1 hour, each way max).

-All Handlers who complete the course, become certified, and are offered employment must agree to a one year commitment to continue working with K2. Handlers who quit or are terminated for cause prior to their one year anniversary will be required to repay K2 to cover costs associated with the pre-employment training course and certification provided by K2.
