Your responsibilities

The Director of Procurement is responsible for developing a strategic approach to the corporate sourcing and supplier management processes for the purchase of direct and indirect goods and services. In this leadership role, the successful candidate will direct the sourcing of goods and services for BILSTEIN of America (BiA), ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of BiA's purchasing and supplier management processes, ensure material savings targets are met through commercial negotiations and design efficiency improvements, maintain and adjust purchasing guidelines as needed, manage departmental budgets, oversee the entire purchasing process for the BiA, and oversee the supplier development organization.

Furthermore, this position works with suppliers to ensure that the procurement process is efficient and that suppliers are achieving cost, quality, and delivery targets. Simultaneously, it involves working closely with different department heads to ensure that all supplies, machinery, and services needed for BiA's operations are sourced on time and at the lowest possible cost.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Provide effective leadership to the procurement team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. This includes coaching and mentoring team members, setting clear expectations, and empowering them to excel in their roles. Additionally, lead by example in demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement a strategic sourcing strategy aligned with BiA's objectives to optimize procurement processes for direct and indirect goods and services.
  • Supplier Management: Direct the management of supplier relationships to ensure adherence to cost, quality, and delivery targets, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Cost Savings: Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers to achieve material savings targets while identifying and implementing efficiency improvements in procurement processes.
  • Purchasing Process Oversight: Oversee the entire purchasing process, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, policies, and regulations while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Budget Management: Manage the procurement department's budget effectively, allocating resources to support strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Target Achievement: Drive the achievement of BOM targets by fostering collaboration with product engineering and project management teams, ensuring procurement strategies align with product development objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with department heads to understand their procurement needs and ensure timely sourcing of supplies, machinery, and services at the most competitive prices.
  • Supplier Development: Oversee the supplier development organization to drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure the development of a robust and diverse supplier base.
  • Process Efficiency: Work with suppliers to streamline procurement processes, improve efficiency, and enhance overall procurement performance.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure procurement activities comply with regulatory requirements and mitigate procurement-related risks effectively.
  • Supplier Escalations: Manage supplier escalations effectively, collaborating with our Legal team to navigate challenging or sensitive topics and resolve issues in a timely and mutually beneficial manner.

Your profile

Experience & Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field;
  • Five (5)+ years of proven experience in business operations, supply chain management, or related fields, preferably three (3)+ years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to drive cost savings and achieve favorable terms in business dealings.
  • Excellent leadership and managerial abilities, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving organizational change.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in data interpretation, trend analysis, and making data-driven decisions to optimize business processes.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in business operations; familiarity with ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes and achieving strategic objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards applicable to business operations.
