This position is located in Elkton, Cecil County, Maryland 21921

1. Patrol designated areas of Cecil County in order to serve and protect the public. 2. Investigation and reconstruction of motor vehicle collisions. 3. Administer rescue and lifesaving techniques as a first responder to incident scenes. 4. Basic medical services as a first responder. 5. Enforce traffic laws and issue citations. 6. Monitor and properly identify, interpret, act and respond to information transmitted over a mobile/base radio system. 7. Receive, comprehend and respond promptly and appropriately to verbal communication, to communicate effectively with the public and other members of the Agency. 8. Read, comprehend and act on information contained in various forms of written and printed documents. 9. Note all unusual occurrences and reports to the Dispatcher. 10. Prepare and serve criminal and civil process papers. 11. Conduct interviews to learn the nature of citizens’ complaints and to gain information and obtain all pertinent data related to emergency or criminal situations and/or criminal offenses. 12. Conduct interviews/interrogations in criminal cases to determine probable cause. Identify suspects and obtain information to file for charging documents and/or make arrests. 13. Investigate misdemeanors and felonies according to established procedures. 14. Complete reports such as activity logs, daily reports, and arrest reports ensuring the information is concise, legible and accurate; file and/or forward reports to appropriate divisions or external agency. 15. Testify in court and at other proceedings in a clear, well-organized, and logical manner to accurately provide information describing events, objects, and evidence associated with a case. 16. Provide security to the court and perform associated assigned tasks. 17. Assist with lifting stretchers with accident and crime scene victims and placing into vehicles including ambulances, helicopter, and other rescue vehicles. 18. Apply handcuffs, subdue resisting suspects using the appropriate degree of physical force and effectively perform self-defense techniques. 19. Transport and maintain custody of prisoners. 20. Inspect security and safety devices. 21. Firing a handgun with either hand and meeting proficiency requirements; capable of firing any other weapon issued by the Agency and be proficient in its use after completing a course of instruction conducted by qualified Agency personnel. 22. Operate a motor vehicle under normal driving conditions, as well as extreme situations including emergency runs, high speed chases, and during hazardous weather conditions. 23. Maintain complete, required, and preventive maintenance to assigned vehicle. 24. Push a standard full sized vehicle from the roadway. 25. Run for short durations and sustained (1-2 minutes) periods over varied indoor and outdoor terrain, while attempting to pursue/apprehend fleeing suspects. 26. Ability to walk for long and short periods of time during crime scene searches, “house-to-house: searches, at security posts and during other assignments. 27. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously including but not limited to operating a motor vehicle during normal and emergency conditions, receiving and transmitting information over police radio and observing and remembering details and conditions. 2 Cecil County Maryland Deputy 28. Perform assigned duties in all forms of weather conditions including buy not limited to extremes in heat and cold, snow, rain and thunderstorms; Utilize the five basic senses of sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing to identify surroundings and objects while performing job related activities. 29. Complete assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time. 30. Perform other related duties as assigned.
