Overview
We are looking for a highly capable database manager to enhance the performance of our organization's database. You will be creating and implementing standardized database management procedures, and overseeing the installation, security, and upgrading of our database.
To ensure success as a database manager, you should possess extensive knowledge of database technologies and experience in a similar role. An outstanding database manager will be someone whose database management expertise translates into optimal database performance.

Database Manager Responsibilities:
  • Be a problem solver and help to deliver timely complex initiatives and projects.
  • Proven track record in mentoring and coaching new technical talent within the organization by delegating more complex tasks with defined outcomes and timelines in skill development.
  • Manages a team including goal setting, performance appraisal processes, and providing timely feedback.
  • Proven track record in project management for team, departmental and/or program initiatives.
  • Ability to perform resource capacity planning to identify trends in resource capacity for internal team.
  • Proven track record in developing relationships by collaborating with technology teams and management for the development, maintenance, testing, implementation, and support of database technologies and associated software products.
  • Proven ability in setting priorities, objectives, and driving deliverables within database technology and demonstrating the understanding the financial and technological impact of the deliverables.
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations for internal learning, training events, and/or business discussions.
  • Contributes to financial analysis, planning, and forecasting to reduce total cost of ownership and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Lead and manage a diverse, multi-disciplinary global database team.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills to promote Database Engineering to internal and external customers.
  • 24x7 on-call duties may be required to support global operations and acts as an escalation point for technical issues within the database technologies and related infrastructure components.
  • Appreciation and understanding of database technologies including security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and administration functions.
  • Ability to lead the team in support of platform ideation, implementation, maturity, and stabilization through standardization and automation methods.
  • Responsible for all operational aspects for the teams including participation in production issues, managing resource assignments, completion of assignments, and scheduling of work.
  • Facilitates the resolution of complex problems by providing managerial operational support to maintain systems and platforms.
  • Assists with process improvement efforts to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation and/or reduction in time to deployment.
  • Partners with internal customers across development verticals to drive project completion and overseeing several initiatives around system and platform performance by providing project direction and technical advice.
  • Ensures the team successfully follows change management, problem management and incident management processes and procedures.

Database Manager Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, information systems, or information technology.
  • Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • In-depth knowledge of database technologies, architecture, and data security.
  • Knowledge of best practices in database management.
  • Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
