The Database Administrator working with the Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for the installation, implementation, configuration, maintenance, security, integrity and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
- Test backups to ensure meeting the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
- Troubleshoot SQL Server issues as they occur, including after-hours and weekends. Regularly maintain and troubleshoot databases, work effectively with other team members to identify and address problems
- Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
- Install and configure new SQL Servers
- Deploy database change scripts from developers or provided by third party vendors
- When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes or index/query changes
- Document the company’s server and database environment and write detailed design or process specifications documents
- On-call troubleshooting experience with production SQL Server
- Use third party tools or scripts to solve system or performance issues
- Monitor databases, manage backups and recovery, and performance tuning for all databases
- Extracts, transforms and loads data from disparate data sets to ensure the effective and efficient storage, retrieval, customization and archiving of data
- Develop database schema, stored procedures, functions and scripts
- Perform data analysis and data design to support business and performance requirements
- Assist with the establishment and enforcement of database and data integration standards and guidelines in order to ensure data integrity
- Engineer best practices and processes to ensure the best possible solution and delivery timelines
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in administering a Microsoft SQL environment
- Resourceful ability to resolve design or malfunction issues for Microsoft SQL Server
- Expertise and experience writing in T-SQL, PowerShell, Scripting languages, SSIS
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Strong systems analysis, problem solving and design skills
- Strong communication skills (written/verbal)
- Attention to detail and a passion for problem-solving
- Excellent customer service skills
- Availability for on-call support off hours and weekends
Preferred:
- Experience in health care environment
