The Database Administrator will support the design, creation, optimization, and maintenance of databases. The Database Administrator will collaborate with a broad range of customers, partners, and key stakeholders in administrative and academic units to provide best-in-class database services, profile application workloads, identify application and infrastructure interdependencies, and support the seamless delivery of a secure database environment. The Database Administrator will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights in service of the institution's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.
Salary & Compensation
- UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications
- Three years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, database administration, data services, or related fields. (Required)
- Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows system administration and strong skills in PowerShell and Unix shell scripting. (Required)
- Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
- Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
- Five or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, database administration, data services. (Preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of data management systems, practices, and standards. Familiarity with supporting and maintaining database technologies in cloud environments. (Required)
- Skilled in data modeling and querying and translation of data model patterns into a high-performance physical database design. Strong knowledge and experience with database system design, security practices, backup and recovery standards, and performance monitoring solutions. (Required)
- Fluent proficiency in SQL optimization. Knowledge of database technologies such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and cloud database services. (Required)
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and apply pertinent service level agreements, policies, procedures, regulations, and other requirements, and turn them into actionable outcomes. (Required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required)
- Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required)
- Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree Information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, or related fields, or equivalent combination of experience/training. (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree Information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration. (Preferred)
- IBM Certified Database Administrator, or equivalent (Preferred)
- AWS Certified Database Specialty or equivalent
- AWS Cloud Practitioner
Special Conditions for Employment
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).
The anticipated pay range for this position is$113,928 - $128,417, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
