Responsible for the development, organization, and implementation of crime prevention programs with attention to both business and residential crime in the City. This is a proactive section of the Police Department that serves and protects through education. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.Develops and organizes the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program. Acts as departmental liaison between community and business groups, local civic association, private security agencies, and statewide associations interested in crime prevention.Conveys information transmitted from citizens and organizations to the agency. Works with the Neighborhood Policing Bureau and the Crime Analyst to identify crime types and geographic areas based on analysis of crime data in the City and develop strategies to combat that crime.Develops community relations policies for the agency and informs all personnel of responsibilities related to achieving the agency’s community relations objectives and improve agency practices bearing on police-community relations.Identifies training needs through interviews with citizen and business representatives, and develops information, including presentations, for those concerned. Evaluation of all general crime prevention programs offered to the community. Address in the content of the crime prevention programs offered, including informational booths at National Night Out.Plans, directs, and implements special events and cultural activities, utilizing Police department (PD) resources and specialized units.Develops brochures and flyers; compiles information and articles for various publications.Schedules and facilitates community engagement meetings and presentations with public and private groups.Solicits business sponsors; develops sponsorship packages.Plans, organizes, and maintains scheduling calendar.Coordinates the rental, scheduling, use, and maintenance of facilities and equipment necessary for each event.Works with staff from various City departments in the development and execution of special events.Applies agency community engagement programs to meet the needs of the community.Establishes strategies to build community relationships by ensuring the open exchange of accurate information through community input and partnerships.Additional aspects of the job include encouraging citizens to participate in the following crime prevention activities: Neighborhood Crime WatchBurglary PreventionCrime StoppersFraud PreventionHome Security SurveysRetail Theft PreventionBurglary PreventionPartners Against CrimeCyber SafetyOther duties as may be assigned.
