Job Duties:
The Virginia Beach Police Department provides a safe community for our residents by delivering quality police services. Our Real Time Crime Center is seeking an experienced Crime Analyst to join their state-of the-art center in our Operations Division. This position will support law-enforcement as they are responding to critical incidents.

Criminal History: Conviction of any felony or any crime involving moral turpitude (crimes contrary to justice, honesty, or good morals). Conviction of any Class 1 or Class 2 misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations which are discussed separately, or the Virginia State Law equivalent within the last 5 years.
Traffic Violations: Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years.
Drugs: Any involvement in the sale of illegal drugs as an adult. Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months.

Minimum Requirements:
CRIME ANALYST I MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree OR four (4) years of experience in fields such as computer science,
geography, criminal justice, information technology, business administration, or public administration as it relates to the knowledge, skills and abilities associated with this position.
CRIME ANALYST II MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) year experience in fields such as computer science,
geography, criminal justice, information technology, business administration, or public administration OR an equivalent combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
Experience as a Crime/Intelligence Analyst; experience using SQL or other query methods, experience with ArcGIS/ArcPro, experience with social network analysis, experience using data for problem-solving, experience with OSINT; experience supporting field operations, experience with high-pressure situations. A Master's degree in any related field is preferred for Crime Analyst II.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
