Pacific THERx Fitness is seeking a Personal Fitness Trainer. Our team of Personal Fitness Trainers, collaborate on our mission is to provide Portola Valley and the surrounding communities with a comprehensive model that provides effective, artful and regenerative care coupled with intelligent, challenging and enhancing sports and fitness training to facilitate the exceptional, personalized and focused goals of our clients.
Personal Fitness Trainer Responsibilities under the Supervision of the Director of Fitness
- Performs physical performance evaluations and, based on results of evaluation, designs exercise prescriptions for healthy, athletic, and asymptomatic individuals, as well as those with medical limitations, & adults with intellectual or developmental delays (IDD). Physical performance evaluations may include submaximal stress testing, body composition analysis, strength and flexibility testing, Balance and specifically Y-Balance UE & LE testing, SFMA & FMS testing, pulmonary function and others as appropriate.
- Monitors, evaluates and adjusts clients' response to prescribed exercise.
- Provides appropriate follow-up data to health professional such as physicians, physical therapists, or dieticians concerning program participants' progress and/or problems.
- Supervises, coordinates or monitors work of students assisting with the physical performance evaluations and exercise sessions/classes.
- Recruits and screens potential clients for admission to exercise program; determines which clients are appropriate for participation in a program; explains the functions and procedures of the various aspects of the program to clients.
- Promotes a positive image of Pacific THERx by participating in community and professional organizations & representing Pacific THERx at professional meetings.
- Enables men and women to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual Sports Performance Testing & Exercise Program, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of performance development.
- Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during individual or group training sessions by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport or activity and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and warm ups, and collaborating with qualified sports medicine/rehabilitation professionals when appropriate.
- Conducts group exercise sessions/classes occasionally.
- Provides appropriate follow-up data to health professional such as physicians, physical therapists or dieticians concerning program participants' progress and/or problems.
- Work concurrently with client's physical therapist in implementation/instruction of therapeutic exercises as well as progressions in exercise programs, biomechanical analysis, gait training, and sports, fitness & ADL biomechanics training.
- Contributes to the overall success of Pacific THERx by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Personal Trainer Requirements
- Bachelor's degree is required, with an emphasis in BOC Certified Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, or Physical Education. Knowledge of exercise physiology theory and principles.
- Requires certification or willingness to obtain certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Certification ACSM/NASM, and Provider BLS CPR. BOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
- Knowledge of appropriate emergency procedures in situations which might arise prior to, during and after exercise.
- Skill in exercise stress testing and exercise participation.
- Skill in applying scientific principles of exercise physiology and behavioral psychology toward the promotion of healthy lifestyles in other individuals.
- Excellent communication skills, supervisory and management skills are preferred.
- The scope of the position requires the ability to perform and/or demonstrate various physical strength and conditioning exercises, and to assist others performing those exercises. The ability to perform measures of physiological function related to the risk classification for disease, indicators of orthopedic dysfunction, indicators of fitness, and sports performance. The ability to design home exercise programs.
