Job Summary: Conducts background investigations on persons that apply for a tribal gaming license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The person fulfilling this position must be capable of performing the following, but not limited to:

  • Interviews applicants and gathers such additional information that may be required to adequately conduct an appropriate background investigation to evaluate the applicant’s suitability for a tribal gaming license.
  • Obtains reports (i.e., criminal, credit, civil, public records, etc.) from background screening agencies to determine applicant suitability.
  • Obtains, rolls and submits an applicant’s fingerprints to appropriate Federal and State Agencies.
  • Contacts former employers, references, trade associations, and others individuals or entities who may be familiar with the applicant to verify employment and assist in the determination of the applicant’s suitability for a tribal gaming license.
  • Examines and evaluates documents and other public records to verify the applicant’s residence, arrest, credit, tax and other histories that may reflect on an applicant’s suitability for a tribal gaming license.
  • Analyzes information gathered during the background investigation and document findings through suitability reports.
  • Advises the Backgrounds Manager of the status of on going investigations.
  • Documents all work performed during the investigation and maintain files of assigned investigations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree required.
  • One or more years of relevant educational, trade school, gaming or work experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of a background investigator may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Possess knowledge of basic math, good communication skills and the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Be capable of working independently or in a team environment.
  • Display a proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn and advance within the department is a plus.
