Position Summary
This Avionics Technician role is responsible for conducting tests, repairs and troubleshooting of avionics equipment in any military or commercial aircraft. These are the electronic and computerized hardware systems in the aircraft taken out of the cockpit or avionics bay and routed to the shop for repair. Specialized training is required to handle the avionics of various aircraft types which are often unique to each type.

Essential Functions and Competency Statements
  • Perform testing and troubleshooting of electronic components and assemblies using prescribed circuit testers, oscilloscopes, test rigs or voltmeters.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, install, and update avionics systems as specified with minimal amounts of direct supervision.
  • Perform repair and overhaul in compliance with manufacturer overhaul reference manuals.
  • Comply with US-FAA avionics maintenance standards.
  • Maintain and update repair records of each avionics unit.
  • Perform data entry in the automated daily productivity system.
  • Access and update the inventory management system to place part orders when replacing parts of an avionics unit, making sure that the correct part number is used.
  • Must always be conscious of safety in any procedure.
  • High competence in troubleshooting and repairing electronics.
  • Understand and apply manufacturer's repair manuals as well as engineering and FAA bulletins.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as the work requires working in a team.
  • Completes all administratively required forms and documents on schedule.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

During deployment, employees will be living under field conditions and must be able to work with little supervision in austere or arduous environments. Work environment varies widely based on geographic location of contract operations.

Expected Hours of Work

The daily working hours for this position vary Monday through Sunday. Hours and work shifts may vary in accordance with business needs. You will be scheduled to forward deploy/work approximately 60 days OCONUS followed by rotation off-site for approximately 60 days. Rotation schedule might be adjusted in order to meet program requirements.

Travel

Travel requirements are 50% - OCONUS deployment.

Required Education, Experience and Certificates
  • Education: Associate’s Degree.
    • 2 years’ work experience may be substituted for Associate’s Degree
  • Experience: 4 years in aircraft avionics.

Certificates and Licenses:
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate under FAA Part 65
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must have a current US Passport

Computer Skills:
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Education, Experience, and Certificates
  • Education: Bachelors Degree or Vocational post-secondary course in electronics, computer technology, avionics, or related sciences.
  • Experience:
    • 6 years of documented aircraft maintenance experience
    • Prior military supporting aircraft maintenance from forward deployed locations.
    • Garmin G1000
    • Beechcraft King Air BE350 highly preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must be able to accomplish any and all duties with little or no assistance.
  • Must have good command of the English language; oral and written.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to hold and maintain a Secret (or higher) Clearance Level.
