Who will you be working with?
Reporting to the Sr. Onsite Service Manager, the Assistant Site Manager is the second in command of a dynamic team of subject matter experts in locomotive repair and materials – all geared towards assisting our customer to keep their locomotives running at optimal levels.

This role is involved in all aspects of shop management and provides foundational knowledge and experience that sets the groundwork for continued career growth and exposure. A true front line leader role, where you will be responsible for the performance of a team of technicians, this position is geared towards those who have a passion for leading others.
What do we want to know about you?
  • Bachelors’ degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university
    • Or 4+ years of military experience (preferably in a maintenance related specialty)
    • Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of operations experience
    • Or associate degree in technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years professional work experience
  • Currently Level II certified (highly preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of operations, services, engineering, or military maintenance experience
  • Proficiency in MS office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in a fast paced, customer facing operations environment
  • Previous experience, or the ability to be successful in, a customer facing job function
  • Experience, willingness, and ability to work in shop environment and to work various shifts on various days as required, including having a flexible work schedule to perform auditing and training on various shifts.
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
What will your typical day look like?
  • Train new locomotive maintenance technicians (TA’s)
  • Oversee the tooling/repair processes
  • Higher level work planning and troubleshooting with the customer
  • Create work scopes for new projects and review the progress of current/ongoing projects
  • Provide technical expertise to railroad employees and management as well as Wabtec employees, including troubleshooting, material handling, tooling, safety procedures, and contract requirement clarification
  • Lead a technical team and provide training / mentorship to the customer and Wabtec employees
  • Manage and provide instruction on key programs and procedures
  • Provide clear communication to customer employees, customer management and management on work to be performed, equipment status, productivity, and process improvements, and liaison with other departments as necessary
  • Work with customer employees and management to promote, maintain, and drive continuous improvement in safe work practices while monitoring productivity, quality assurance, and adherence to contract requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, OSHA work practices, and industry / site specific work rules
  • Make risk assessments balancing customer requests with Wabtec requirements
  • Establish production plan for labor, material, and logistics
  • Work with various software systems (MS Office, Oracle, JD Edwards, SAP) to manage material, labor plans, and other systemic requirements
  • All other duties as required

  • Climbing on/off of locomotives
  • Fitting into small or tight spaces if/when needed
  • Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day
  • Speaking and hearing
  • Typing and operating a computer
  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
