As the Assistant Brokerage Operations Manger, you will provide leadership in guiding Brokerage Operations toward excellence in internal and external customer service while maximizing profit for Mercer’s contractors, agents and the company itself by working with a motivated dedicated work force.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of Brokerage Operations Oversee departmental training. Evaluates personnel performance.
  • Communicates effectively with agents, sales personnel, consignees, and other company personnel to assist in meeting customer service commitments.
  • Provides agents and carriers with direct and immediate assistance in facilitating problems and
  • Assists agents with problems arising through the brokering of freight.
  • Works with systems department in development of computer system to enhance productivity of brokerage department.
  • Assists in preparation of yearly departmental budget and provides information for monthly variance
  • Monitors brokerage operations personnel
  • Ensures that agents and freight operations personnel are knowledgeable of and adhere to Mercer policies and procedures in the brokerage of freight.
  • Remains flexible and works as needed to meet the responsibilities, tasks, and objectives of the department.

Essential Skills and Experience:


  • Undergraduate degree preferred with relevant courses in Sales Management; three to four years of supervisory experience in comparable levels of the trucking or transportation field; High School Diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate) with six (6) years of commensurate experience in the Trucking Industry or Supervisory roles; two (2) year of which may have included previous trucking experience or management.
  • Management or Supervisory related experience developing, implementing and enforcing personnel policies and procedures; evaluating employees and conducting performance
  • Strong interpersonal, writing and presentation skills including the ability to communicate with all levels of management and audiences with diverse backgrounds and educational levels. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Takes independent actions and calculated risks; Responds promptly to customer needs, seeks opportunities to improve processes and implements creative solutions.
  • Develops innovative approaches and ideas; Presents ideas and information in a manner that persuades positive interaction.
  • Strong analytical and research skills including the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization.
  • Excels in prioritizing daily functions and dealing with multiple deadlines and high volumes of work. Plans work activities for employees and/or sales campaigns and develop realistic action plans.
  • Ability to interpret information in company provided programs to identify Key Performance Indicators, create measurable KPIs with employee, and effectively utilize to enhance employee performance.

Essential Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; operating office equipment; and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Acuity; ability to see and hear within normal parameters, must use hands and fingers to use keyboard and mouse; operate equipment or controls; reach above shoulder heights, below the waist; or lift to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Proper lifting techniques required.
