DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Recreation is an integral part of UC San Diego, striving to achieve the same standards of excellence that exist within the university’s academic programs. Recreation programs serve more students than any other co-curricular program at UC San Diego and based on annual surveys, are a key component of student satisfaction with their overall UCSD experience. Providing a broad scope of high-quality, dynamic recreational experiences that benefit students, staff, faculty, and the University community and supporting a culture of Wellness at UC San Diego, major programs include Intramural Sports; Sports Clubs; Recreation Instructional Classes and camps; Special Events, and Outdoor Education. Recreation manages all indoor and outdoor sports facilities on the UC San Diego campus which include RIMAC, Main Gym, Canyonview Aquatic Center, Spanos, and all multi-purpose playing fields. Working in close conjunction with Intercollegiate Athletics, student and staff organizations, and the community.

Recreation provides maintenance, scheduling, retail, and support services for special events that improve the quality of life on campus. Recreation has an annual operating budget in excess of $17.5 million from various fund sources and employs 74 full-time staff, over 600 students, and 500 by-agreement instructors. Full-time staff are both non-represented and represented employees who span seven different union agreements.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Support clients in achieving their health and fitness goals by creating personalized workout plans, evaluating progress and adapting plans appropriately. Demonstrated ability to train individuals of various fitness levels and work one-on-one and with groups in a gym environment and/or rehabilitation clinic. Skill set should include but not be limited to post-rehabilitative corrective exercises and injury prevention to improve posture, functional movement, overall health improvements and inspire self-care and healthy habits. Demonstrated ability to complete adminstrative tasks by assinged deadlines.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Personal Training sessions are offered seven days a week during the facilities' operating hours. Work locations can include UC San Diego main campus La Jolla, UCSD Health Medical Centers in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and Rancho Bernardo.

Hours may not exceed 19.5 hours per week.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must have current CPR/AED/FA certification. UC San Diego Recreation Personal Training Certification or National Commission for Certifying Agencies accredited Personal Training Certification.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Personal Training and Teaching

  • Provides activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups. Instruct clients on the correct exercise techniques, proper use of equipment, and safe workout practices. Evaluate clients' fitness levels, health history, and goals through comprehensive fitness assessments. Use this information to design tailored workout plans that align with clients' needs and objectives. Ability to adapt based on programmatic needs. Percent 20% Essential Yes
  • Design instructional program, and demonstrate proper techniques and styling for selected activity. Create individualized exercise programs that focus on improving strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness based on clients' abilities and aspirations. Demonstrate exercises to ensure clients understand the correct form and execution. Regularly monitor clients' progress and make necessary adjustments to their workout plans to ensure continued improvement and prevent plateaus. Percent 20% Essential Yes

  • Complete timesheets, attendance and/or client SOAP notes accurately by assigned deadlines. Keep scheduling applications up to date.
