Terminal Manager duties include (but are not limited to):
SAFETY! The terminal manager must ensure the safety of terminal personnel by maintaining a safe and clean working environment and by fostering a culture that promotes safety.
Driver/Public Safety. The terminal manager is responsible for ensuring that company vehicles are held to proper DOT standards and that all drivers are properly trained to adhere to DOT regulations and prepared to safely operate a vehicle at all times. Must ensure that all vehicles conform to local, state, and federal transportation guidelines.
Ensure proper handling of hazardous material with regular training and documentation
Directly responsible for maintaining an efficient and operational fleet.
Directly supervise and support all activities at the terminal, including, but not limited to, dock work, road work, terminal maintenance and repairs
Provides continual coaching and guidance to department leads and supervisors in the performance of duties and functions for their respective responsibilities.
Ensure all work is performed according to organizational procedures, standards, and specifications for operations
Effectively present information and respond to questions from senior executives, employees, clients, and carriers.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and develop appropriate leadership and management
Prep and run the weekly safety meeting.
Employee hiring and firing in tandem with HR
Manage employee schedules to ensure maximum efficiency & productivity and offer consistent guidance
Focus on employee development: growth through cross-training
Manage and react to day-to-day operational requirements in a professional and timely manner
Be accountable for the terminal, personnel assigned to the terminal, and all activities regarding terminal operations. Seek opportunities for improvement, identify areas of weakness, and be knowledgeable of areas of strength within the terminal.
Responsible for weekly inventories to ensure operational success and proper turnover of freight
Adjusting operational focus based on metrics provided by senior leadership
Other duties assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
3 or more years of coordination management experience in a similar industry is preferred
Ability to communicate, evaluate, and discipline drivers and enforce company policy and procedure. Must be highly motivated and demonstrate leadership skills.
Thorough knowledge of DOT Regulations
Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with employees, terminals, and management.
Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to properly follow through on deadlines and details.
Must possess excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for operations and transportation issues.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and company-specific software programs
