Employment Information

We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our client’s team in support of a Virginia Dept of Transportation (VDOT) contract in Richmond, VA. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for our software products and technical solutions. This includes writing user guides, installation manuals, online help files, release notes, and other supporting materials.


**Must be willing and able to interview onsite, NO exceptions**

**Must be able to work onsite at least 3 days/week**


**Must be local to Richmond**

**This engagement to be extended beyond 6/30/24, possibly 6-12+ months**


Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather requirements and information from subject matter experts, developers, and other stakeholders to understand the technical aspects of the products/solutions.
  • Author comprehensive documentation that explains complex technical information in a simple and easy-to-understand manner for end-users.
  • Ensure consistency in content, terminology, and writing style across all documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  • Develop and maintain documentation templates, style guides, and writing standards.
  • Continuously update existing documentation to reflect product changes and enhancements.
  • Proficient in using relevant authoring tools and content management systems.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of proven experience in systems documentation to include source code, technical documentations including user documentation, how-to guides, integration guides, computer systems operation guides and product specifications that increase the experience for the digital platform.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.
  • Experience working with other technical experts, such as engineers and software developers, to ensure that the information they provide is accurate and easy to understand.
  • Understand and explain complex technical concepts.
  • Strong research and analytical skills and very detail oriented.
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office or Google Docs
