SQL Server Database Administrator

This position is responsible for installing, developing, implementing, and administering corporate databases and data warehouses. Additionally, the position is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of corporate databases. This position will track and understand current and emerging database technologies and will lead the deployment effort of new technologies. The database administrator will develop and maintain SOC1 compliant IT practices and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with IT and users for the management, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of all database SQL Server environments
  • Coordinate with the organization to apply patches, enhancements, and updates to our corporate database infrastructure
  • Maintain a documented database environment and SOC1 compliant practices
  • Design, build, administer and tune databases and data warehouses
  • Assist with building data extracts and interfaces to internal and external systems
  • Effectively work in a high stress, highly productive and rapidly changing environment
  • Provides 24 hours a day / 7 days a week on‐call support
  • Ability to travel as necessary
  • Adheres to and is supportive of all ACES corporate policies and complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to NERC, FERC and relevant state regulations as applicable to the position
  • Any additional responsibilities assigned by management

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Maintain VMware Infrastructure, ESXi host, Avamar backups
  • Second tier troubleshooting customer issues with infrastructure, 3rd Party software, internal developed software
  • Provide investigation, root cause analysis, and problem resolution on Windows servers
  • Ensure rapid response and resolution to customer service and support issues
  • Install and configure new server software, hardware, and related peripheral devices
  • Support the server operating system software including Windows and VMware
  • Support server applications including Office 365 Exchange, SQL Server, and various 3rd party applications
  • Support the enterprise backup system, including hardware and software
  • Apply and maintain system security, patches, and configuration to meet corporate security goals
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to support the organization’s server and network infrastructure and operations
  • Make recommendations for new hardware, software, and services to meet corporate and departmental goals
  • Maintain a high level of system availability, stability, and performance
  • Monitor, fine-tune, and troubleshoot system and hardware performance and other issues
  • Participates in the research, evaluation, planning, and implementation of server hardware, software, server and business continuity and related projects, policies and procedures
  • Participates in business continuity exercises as requested and maintains system readiness for business continuity

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Technology or related degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of SQL Server Database Administrator experience
  • Server Administrator experience preferred
  • Experience with backup software solutions Dell Data Domain, Avamar, Dell Recover Point technology preferred
  • Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, Exchange Office 365, and Microsoft Server technologies preferred
  • Experience with audit controls, SOC1 preferred
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively; develop and execute short-term plans and prioritize conflicting demands
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills as well as interpersonal and organizational skills to effectively interact with users, technical staff, vendors and management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
