Overview:

We're looking for a Senior Content Designer with expertise in identifying user needs for content to join the Docs team at GitHub. At GitHub Docs, our job is to develop user-centered documentation that helps customers design and develop software on GitHub.


You'll identify the needs of users through evidence and translate them into actionable improvements to documentation and skilling content. You'll collaborate with technical writers and content strategists to develop and test content that meets these needs and that increases adoption and retention.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify and document user needs for documentation and skilling content
  • Recommend content approaches that meet identified needs and work with technical writers to implement them
  • Identify and document documentation-related user journeys in collaboration with Docs colleagues and partner teams; test and refine assumptive journeys through research
  • Conduct evaluative research, such as content and usability testing, to ensure effective language and labeling
  • Synthesize and derive insights from Docs user data, such as survey feedback
  • Create opportunities for colleagues to understand and empathize with Docs users
  • Contribute research insights to GitHub's customer research repository
  • Liaise with GitHub's central Customer Research team to apply core personas and job maps/JTBD to skilling content
Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in writing, content design, content strategy, UX design, information technology (IT), coding/programming, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, English, Writing, Journalism, Communications, or related field AND 5+ years experience in writing, content design, content strategy, UX design, information technology, coding/programming, or related field
  • 3+ years experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and tools
  • Experience delivering measurable content improvements based on evidence
  • Experience leading complex projects and managing work independently


Preferred qualifications:

  • 3+ years project leadership/management experience
  • 3+ years experience in a related technical field
  • Passionate about helping colleagues understand and act on user needs
  • Experience with technical writing and documentation processes and best practices

Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $104,400.00 - USD $276,900.00 /Yr.

In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
