Soft Tech Consulting is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual to fill the role of a Database Administrator for one of our clients. The designated candidate for this position will join a collaborative team environment, providing support and expertise necessary toward the successful delivery of the project deliverables, and provide effective communication to all levels of staff for reporting status/progress. The place of performance for this contract is in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

Provide functional and/or technical expertise to plan, analyze, define and support the delivery of future functional and technical capabilities for an application or group of applications.

Assist in facilitating impact assessment efforts and in producing and reviewing estimates for client work requests.

Administer over 30 AWS RDS databases running Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSFT SQL Server, and MySQL in multiple AWS accounts.

Perform many related database functions across one or more teams or clients, including account management, AWS Data migration services (DMS) design and implementation for inter-database synchronization, backup/recovery, disaster recovery testing, and configuration management.

Manage database management systems (DBMS) on AWS and provide input for modification of procedures and documentation used for problem resolution and day-to-day maintenance.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or any related field
- Advanced AWS RDS Experience with Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, and MS SQL Servers that includes but not limited to:
- Deploying multi-AZ RDS systems with high performance
- Performance tuning with AWS Performance Insights
- Integrating Oracle Enterprise Manager for performance monitoring
- Designing AWS Data Migration Services jobs for data synch between databases
- Database Encryption at rest and in transit
- Configuring the parameter groups
- Managing IP traffic using a security group
- Auditing the database log files
- Maintenance and management activities
- Planning backup and recovery strategies
- User management
- Monitoring the database
- Expertise with Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
- Advanced knowledge of AWS Relational Database Service (RDS), Oracle Database Administration and PostgreSQL Administration
- Proficient with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
- Must be able to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
- Must be able to work independently, with minimal oversight.
