Summary:

The Quality Lab Tech will be to support the plant in monitoring the quality and compliance of all mustard & condiment products. This includes lab testing and monitoring of results while supporting the plant goals of quality, safety, productivity, and customer service. The current opening is for our 3rd shift.

Key Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Performs analysis of raw materials, intermediate and finished products to determine conformance to accepted specifications for analytical, microbiological, sensory or physical property.
  • Conducts routine analysis of test article by appropriate microbiological method such as: LAL, Bioburden, TPC, Sterility, Sterile hold, Biological indicator test, etc. Performs aseptic processing, microbial identification, environmental monitoring, water sampling, gas sampling etc.
  • Chemical Analysis using HPLC, Potentiometric Titration, pH, Density (Specific Gravity), Viscosity, Surface tension, fat and moisture testing.
  • Interprets results based on trends, specification limits and comparison data.
  • Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration of lab instruments.
  • Must have the ability to communicate internally and externally with clarity and professionalism.
  • Must have high attention to accuracy and details
  • Administrative duties include: results entry, results validation, record retention, and communication with production personnel. Record results from analysis on designated forms or databases.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean and orderly manner daily.
  • Provide expertise to business units in troubleshooting quality-related problems.
  • Perform audits on equipment, material, product and procedures.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals and lab testing supplies for the Quality Assurance laboratory.
  • Communicate detailed report of incident and actions taken to departments affected and concerned, i.e. production, distribution, scheduling, etc. Present information clearly and concisely.
  • Support and participate in safety activities to achieve departmental and plant wide goals and objectives.
  • Cross training to support other QA duties as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies, programs, rules, regulations, and safety rules.
  • Has knowledge and understands OSHA, HACCP, IFS, ISO and Safety requirements within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned Other Requirements:
  • Computer skills (Microsoft office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and ERP system).
  • In addition to the above tasks, the job holder is obliged to carry out individual order as directed by the manager, which are essential for the quality assurance or result from operational necessity.
  • Direct experience in QC lab performing microbiological assays, environmental monitoring, sampling and testing.
  • Technical knowledge of food microbiology methods and technologies.
  • Advanced laboratory and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and QA experience in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to pay strong attention to detail and multitask effectively.
  • Associates degree (A.A.) in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or closely related technical degree from a two-year college or technical school; or one-year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.
