The Production Manager role is a senior position who oversees all manufacturing processes for our company. They are responsible for the manufacturing of products and helping to boost revenues for the company. The Production Manager's role is critical in leading the activities of the UPC manufacturing plant and its production team across multiple shifts on a day-to-day basis to contribute to the highest levels of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and production efficiency. The Production Manager will also provide job enrichment and growth opportunities to all levels of production team members.

What will my day look like?

The Production Manager is a key role at the company responsible for leading the production team to success by managing production projects, ensuring quality standards are met, promoting plant safety, and mentoring team members to grow. General duties include:

  • Passionately takes ownership in leading production, maintenance, and warehouse to the highest standards of efficiency, quality, safety, and teamwork culture.
  • Leads a climate that respects and values each team member's individual contributions to continuously bolster high employee engagement and morale.
  • Positively represents UPC and its brand both internally and externally.
  • Displays proactive commitment to growing and expanding own skill set through training and education working towards expert competency in all areas of role.
  • Inspires the department to achieve continuously greater results by setting and communicating the highest of expectations for performance.
  • Develops and has ownership of all aspects of the safety culture for plant through constant development of safe behaviors, procedures, and systems within team and plant that exceed OSHA and industry standards.
  • Is a champion for good housekeeping as a guiding principle for excellent safety and productivity results.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects within plant engaging employees whenever possible so team has pride and ownership for their plant environment.
  • Manages all manufacturing activities at the operating level to achieve effective and efficient use of facilities and personnel as well as conformance to schedules and budgets using process, quality, and production improvement methodologies.
  • Directs the development, planning, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods for new or existing products and technologies; this includes quality, safety, and efficiency programs and improvements for all manufactured operations and compliance with OSHA, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develops and maintains manufacturing budgets and ensures that the operations and manufacturing processes are cost-effective to remain profitable.
  • Drives production planning and scheduling efforts and ensures that production department materials, labor, and equipment are used efficiently.
  • Collaborates and communicates with all relevant departments to maximize efficiency of all plant projects.
  • Develops and analyzes plant systems of measurement including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) to guide plant and team performance.
  • Manages plant staffing to complement production schedule planning with time off requests, overtime, and needed staffing model changes.
  • Collaborates with internal partners to hire top talent, develop training and cross-training programs, deliver performance evaluations, make recommendations for internal personnel changes, and facilitate coaching conversations.
  • Communicates continuously with production team and leadership including leading production meetings and representing production at inter-department meetings.
  • Work alongside production team to ensure products are produced safely, within quality specifications, and on time.
  • Communicate and meet with customers, vendors, contractors, and other partners.

What experience and skills do I need to be successful?

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field or equivalent related work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of production processes and machines; must also have broad materials knowledge.
  • Experience successfully leading teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Intermediate computer competency required in Microsoft Office and for ability to work within production software programs and to execute required reporting.
  • Advanced critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to be used for strategic planning in leading production department toward efficient completion of goals.
  • A positive, proactive demeanor resulting in superior teamwork and collaboration with team members while demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently in order to communicate effectively with team members within and external to department.

What will my schedule look like?

This is a salaried role generally working on first shift Monday-Friday that is expected to lead and support both 1st and 2nd shift (shift change is at 2:30p.) Role requires flexibility to support production needs after hours or on weekends when needed.
