7. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK OF THE POSITION:
Wears department-issued uniform while working. Patrols metered parking and other areas; does related work as required. The major portion of the work is routine; however, it is responsible law enforcement work requiring mature judgment and courtesy in dealing with owners and overparked vehicles. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Police Chief.

10. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE WORK:
Some knowledge of regulations and restrictions pertaining to parking within the City limits; average social and general intelligence; excellent interpersonal skills; basic computer knowledge; basic data entry; tact; courtesy; good judgment; good powers of observation; work involves responsibility for making routine parking enforcement decisions; ability to compose correspondence and reports; ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations; good knowledge of general customer service principles when dealing with the public to represent the City in a professional and courteous manner; good knowledge of general safety precautions when operating near traffic; considerable ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing; considerable ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and the general public; good physical condition.
Must be able to pass a employment medical exam, background check, and drug/alcohol screening. Must be able to attain CJIS Level Two Security Awareness Training access standards.
11. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY FOR WORK PREPARATION:
Some work experience and a high school diploma or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid West Virginia driver’s license.

Ability to safely operate an automobile for a minimum of 1 hour, sit for a minimum of 1 hour and walk for a minimum of 5 hours per workday.
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors but the majority of the work is performed primarily outside under solitary conditions. Must have ability to perform job functions in all types of weather/temperatures (including but not limited to rain, snow, sleet, and heat) and subject to exhaust fumes, dust, pollen and other air quality issues typical of a densely populated community.
The noise level of the inside work environment is that of a typical office. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to file, write, answer phone and for use of computer keyboard, copy machine and other miscellaneous office equipment. Employee must be able to use both hands for firm grasping and repetitive actions. The employee must be able to talk clearly, hear, and be able to speak publicly. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
