Overview:

RES is currently accepting applications for a Designer II/ Engineer II with ecological restoration experience based out of one of our Nashville, TN, Athens, GA, or Macon, GA offices.

The mission: to support a growing, multi-disciplinary team of ecosystem restoration designers and engineers currently working on some of the nation’s largest rivers, streams, and wetland restoration projects! Therefore, we are looking for a SUSTAINABILITY ENTHUSIAST and an EFFECTIVE TEAM PLAYER that is capable of contributing to this process.

What your day-to-day might look like?:
25% of your time will consist of Fieldwork, where you will be performing geomorphic, biological, and ecological site assessments, fulfilling mitigation field protocols, and applied fluvial geomorphic/hydraulic surveys. You will be collaborating with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team on wetland and stream design development and project implementation. You will assist with collection and analysis of field data to interpret existing conditions and identify potential design constraints to support plan set development. You will be performing construction oversight and post-construction monitoring on our project sites, so be ready for travel and occasional overnights!

75% of your time, you will be designing and processing data!
The projects we want you to focus on are related to stream and wetland restoration as well as hydraulic and hydrology investigation. You will be required to develop and interpret erosion and sediment control plans, construction stormwater plans, site restoration design plans and as-built plans. The team will need support on technical calculations, floodplain analyses, discharge selection design, and development of design metrics into a 3-dimensional design with the Autodesk Civil 3D environment. You will be extensively using AutoCAD to produce plans and develop preliminary, final, and construction restoration plan sets, so AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a valuable plus. You will also be supporting the team in data processing and restoration design technique documentation, regulatory permit applications, and post-construction monitoring reports related to restoration design and some mitigation crediting calculations.

You will be juggling with several projects at the same time so superior attention to detail and ability to prioritize are paramount. Be ready to shine your communication skills during the interview!
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3+ years’ experience in a natural resources design field (such as but not limited to: landscape architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering) or a natural sciences field (such as but not limited to geology, geomorphology, environmental science, ecology, or biology);
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and/or HEC-RES;
  • Fundamental understanding of fluvial geomorphology.


What will make you stand out?
  • On the job experience with stream/wetland restoration, field data collection, water resources engineering;
  • Knowledge of geomorphology, stream ecology, and/or aquatic biology;
  • Knowledge of watershed hydrology, stream hydraulics, and sediment transport
  • Understanding of the use of regional regressions, regional curves, and reference data in stream restoration design;
  • Ability to evaluate design discharge, channel cross-section, profile, and planform using a variety of methods;
  • Ability to read and interpret ecological restoration construction plans;
  • Ability to interpret results from H&H models.
