Inspects, diagnoses, services and repairs helicopter airframes, engines, transmissions, rotor systems, gear boxes, control assemblies, instrumentation/electrical systems, hydraulic systems, accessories and law enforcement technology systems and equipment, in accordance with the manufacturers' manuals, notices, bulletins and Airworthiness Directives as issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Evaluates helicopter fleet safety of flight conditions
Reports discrepancies/problems.
Participates in check flights to aid in aircraft troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Evaluates maintenance work to be performed in terms of time required, parts needed and costs involved.
Records and maintains aircraft maintenance records.
Logs books and other records.
Ensures safe work practices are used when performing maintenance and repairs.
The following list represents the core competencies needed for success in this position.
Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
A valid Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is required.
Must provide a rollaway tool cabinet with the required tools to perform general maintenance on helicopter fleet.
A valid Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is preferred.
Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation is required which may include a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances, and polygraph evaluation.
