Job Overview:

Wallace Landscape Associates seeks a full time Professional Gardener to add to our “growing” Fine Garden Maintenance department. Our goal is to manage developing gardens throughout their growth stages, from recent perennial installations to sprawling heritage landscapes. Working with clients and designers alike, we find the balance of garden care that works for the space, the people, and the long-term health of the plants themselves. This Professional Gardener will help carry out this task, along with the rest of the Maintenance team at Wallace.

• 2- or 4-year college degree in horticulture, landscape design/build, construction or related field and at least 2 years’ experience in similar position comparable experience in related field
• Proficient experience required in plant identification, pruning experience, container planting, extensive annual & perennial understanding
• Excellent communication and organizational skills necessary
• Experience in identifying and diagnosing plant pests and diseases
• Daily activities may include but are not limited to weeding, pruning, preparation of beds for planting, transplanting perennials/small shrubs, removal of debris from garden beds, container planting, watering & fertilizing, applying deer repellant, speaking with and taking direction from clients and designers on site, and writing brief descriptions of work completed in a daily log
• Communicating with Garden Maintenance Manager, designers, and other maintenance crews regarding client preferences and garden conditions
• Operation of small landscape machinery: blowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, and understand their corresponding safety-first operating procedures
• Maintenance of company vehicle including, but not limited to, weekly visual vehicle inspections, interior cleanliness, and fueling.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, kneel, and squat repeatedly
• Valid driver’s license required

Starting rate: $19 to $22/hour, based on experience and skill level
