Job descriptions for both an Endoscopy Technician and an Endoscopy Nurse (RN):

Endoscopy Technician Job Description:

An Endoscopy Technician assists physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures. Their primary responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining Equipment and Supplies:
  • Keeping an inventory of equipment and supplies needed for endoscopic procedures.
  • Ensuring that all equipment functions properly.
  • Handling the maintenance of endoscopes, including checking for color and clarity1.
  • Preparing Rooms and Equipment:
  • Setting up the endoscope and other necessary equipment before procedures.
  • Sterilizing instruments according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Organizing the procedure suite or recovery room2.
  • Patient Care:
  • Transporting patients as per medical personnel instructions.
  • Assisting physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures.
  • Collecting specimens from patients.
  • Collaborating effectively with other care providers regarding procedures and patient conditions3.
  • Staying Current:
  • Keeping up-to-date with endoscopy developments by reading literature, speaking with colleagues, or participating in professional organizations4.

Endoscopy Nurse (RN) Job Description:

An Endoscopy Nurse (also known as an Endoscopy RN) plays a crucial role in endoscopic procedures. Their duties include:

  • Patient Preparation:
  • Explaining the procedure to patients and addressing their questions.
  • Administering sedatives and IV drips at the beginning of an endoscopy.
  • Ensuring patient comfort before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Assisting the Physician:
  • Sterilizing and organizing equipment used during endoscopies.
  • Monitoring patient vital signs during and after the procedure.
  • Providing discharge instructions to patients before they leave the hospital, clinic, or doctor’s office
  • Complying with health, safety, and patient privacy standards.
  • Updating patient records5.

Both roles contribute to delivering exceptional care and adhering to health and safety standards.

Pay: $20.00 - $38.00 per hour
