About the Role.
The Director - Head of IT Quality Assurance, Claims Systems is a key cross-functional role that is focused on ensuring systems quality, reliability, and usability. This role is responsible for leading the development and execution strategy for software testing, software qualification, as well as test automation. Reporting to the Vice President, Division Information Officer (DIO) of Claims, the Director will manage a technical team consisting of software developers in Test as well as manual software testers.
As a successful Director - Head of IT Quality Assurance, Claims Systems, you will be driving quality improvements in our software development processes, attaining an in-depth understanding of our product, and developing a strategic roadmap for our investment in automation and testing infrastructure. This role is a change agent that delivers business value and mature quality assurance capability, thereby enhancing IT’s service delivery confidence. Key outcomes would include increasing systems and product quality, strengthening quality assurance and quality engineering capabilities, reducing production issues, and improving speed of delivery while enhancing user experience.

What You’ll Do.
You will partner closely with senior IT leaders in evolving technology vision through the following responsibilities:
  • Drive and assess the quality assurance and test automation strategy across development.
  • Provide software technical leadership on software test automation.
  • Drive continued integration testing.
  • Collaborate with peers to define and evolve software qualification best practices and key principles pertaining to quality assurance and automation processes including test creation and traceability.
  • Serve as a test automation leader responsible for establishing a standards-based automation and performance testing competency with well-defined framework, testing, and test data.
  • Follow project and corporate software plans, standards, and procedures to perform software testing and test automation including participating in requirements review, automation framework design, test case reviews, and team meetings.
  • Support the software development team in evaluation and investigation of software defects.
  • Partner and manage strategic vendor relationships with clear outcome-based service-level objectives (SLOs).
  • Drive continuous improvement and productivity with monthly and quarterly reviews, quality reviews, root-cause analysis, problem resolution, and iterating on best practices in partnership with business users, and application development teams.
  • Develop a Subject Matter Expert (SME) level understanding of the applications under test.

What we’re looking for.
  • 8-10+ years of test automation experience related to software engineering.
  • 10-15 years in an Information Technology related field, ideally with experience in insurance and/or the financial services industry.
  • Experience with Guidewire is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with test automation, including unit testing, integration testing, component testing, API testing, and end-to-end testing.
  • Prior experience as a Technical Lead with proficiency in Java, Python, PyTest, and Multiple UI test automation frameworks (i.e., Selenium, Playwright, etc.).
  • Experienced engineer skilled in both technical coaching and hands-on coaching.
  • Experience in business/industry, managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.
  • Effective organizational communication through direct and indirect development of presentations, business cases, and narratives.
  • Excellent analytical skills, strategic thinking, planning, and execution skills.
The base salary for this role can range from $125k-$150k, based on a full-time work schedule. An individual’s ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience.
