Lead a team of professionals who are responsible for providing Quality Assurance (QA) for software applications developed and supported by AITS, System Office units, as well as some campus units following standard SDLC practices. Manage the growth and development of team members and provide appropriate feedback and guidance for job performance. Recommend long-range strategic technical directions for the QA Team and AITS. Establish goals and timelines and ensure that staff and resources are directed efficiently toward achieving these goals within the specified timelines. Maintain key contacts both internal and external to AITS and act as a liaison for external relationships.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide and direct resources to implement projects in accordance with project requirements, schedules, budgets, and strategic directions.
  • Review the work products of staff to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Implement processes to improve the quality of the work products and efficiency of the Quality Assurance team.
  • Understand and interpret AITS' technology directions for Quality Assurance.
  • Establish practices, policies, and processes for Quality Assurance testing of AITS supported applications. This includes testing for functional requirements, performance, load, vulnerability, and accessibility compliance.
  • Determine the appropriate timing and methods to implement these approaches into the work products to ensure quality and monitoring of the effectiveness of the products.
  • Perform resource load planning to staff current and planned projects. This requires an understanding of the status of current projects, priorities of pending projects, and the skill sets and availability of needed resources.
  • Identify project risks and recommend mitigation strategies for risks which could be the result of scope changes, inadequate resources, conflicting priorities, or unforeseen problems.
  • Serve as an escalation point for staff members who encounter problems. Recognize issues which need to be escalated to senior management and seek to escalate and resolve the issues.
  • Communicate and train staff members on the practices and application of AITS' SDLC.
  • Write and review performance appraisals with staff as well as provide timely feedback on employee performance and take disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Develop career plans and look for training opportunities for staff members.
  • Perform day to day management tasks such as vacation approvals, time tracking, workload review, and task assignment.
  • Communicate with clients, staff, and senior management. Schedule, coordinate, or lead meetings as needed.
  • Provide project management support for medium and large projects as assigned and lead internal projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Resolve customer complaints with products and respond to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
  • Comply with AITS and University security standards and practices.
  • Provide on-call and off-hours support as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information sciences, engineering, or related field.

Preferred:

  • At least ten years of software development experience in roles with continuously increased responsibilities and duties.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a technical team.
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance concepts such as functional testing, regression testing, vulnerability testing, accessibility testing, compatibility testing, etc.
  • Project management and analysis skills, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Understanding of HR policies and practices.
  • Experience supervising and directing the day-to-day work of technology engineers.
  • Experience with Java, Cold Fusion, .NET coding and concepts.
  • Experience with software development methodologies and practices (CMMI, PMI, ITIL, etc.)
  • Knowledge of user experience (UX) design principles.
  • Experience with Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server databases.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Ellucian Higher Education Banner).


APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a Full Time academic professional position. The expected start date is 5/27/2024. The minimum salary for this position is $120,000 and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
